Lindsborg, Kan. – The Bethany College Swedes Softball team played host to the Bethel College Threshers in what was both teams’ conference opener.
GAME 1: SWEDES 6, THRESHERS 4
After surrendering two runs in the first inning, the Swedes answered right back with two of their own as Alex Udy doubled home Ulissa Rivas and Avery Newmiller tripled home Udy. Bethel would score another run in the second, but Bethany would fire back with three runs over the course of the third and fourth innings to go up 5-3. The Threshers would score one in the fifth, but the Swedes would close it out with a little insurance from Kalee Aguilar who singled in Abigail Taylor to extend the Swedes’ lead to 2. Bethany would take Game One 6-4.
Four Swedes would find themselves with multiple base hits. Rivas and Newmiller would each tally a triple while Aguilar, Udy, and Kyson Vap each recorded a double. Newmiller would drive in two RBI.
Dylann Baker got the start in the circle, and after a rough first and second inning, she settled down to only allowed just two more hits while striking out two. Jordyn Stelzig entered in relief to record the save after pitching 3.0 innings striking out three batters.
GAME 2: SWEDES 1, THRESHERS 6
Game Two was not very kind to the Swedes as they were limited to just four hits with three of the four coming in the final two innings of play. Abigail Taylor hit a sacrifice fly to score Addilyn Miller to prevent the shutout.
Avery Newmiller tallied two hits with one being a double. Addilyn Miller recorded her first stolen base of the year in the seventh inning.
Paris Hammer drew the start for the Swedes lasting 3.1 innings. MacKenzie Yoder and Ayianna Revels would combine to go 2.2 innings allowing zero hits. Amia Alexander-Sims pitched the final inning recording two strikeouts.

The Swedes take on the Hesston College Larks for a third and fourth time this season. The last time these two met up, the Swedes won with a combined score of 26-3. Game Three and Four are a doubleheader scheduled for a 1:00 PM first pitch on Thursday, March 12, in Hesston, Kan.
