Buhler Boys Reach 4A Sub-state Title Game, will Play Hugoton in Finals

The Buhler High School boys basketball team advanced to the Kansas Class 4A boys sub-state 3 championship game with a 62-30 victory over Rose Hill in the semifinals Wednesday at the Jim Baker Fieldhouse in Buhler.

Buhler led 12-5 after one quarter, 39-14 at halftime and 59-28 after three quarters. Buhler outscored the Rockets 3-2 in the fourth quarter.

Brycen McCurdy made 6-of-8 3-point attempts (7-of-10 field goals overall) to lead the Buhler boys with 20 points. He also handed out 5 assists, grabbed 1 rebound, had 1 steal and blocked 1 shot.

Isaiah Heredia fired in 12 points on four 3-pointers, grabbed 4 rebounds, had 4 steals and 4 steals. Gabe Edmund made 4-of-6 field goals (including one 3-pointer) for 9 points, grabbed 1 rebound and had 2 assists.

Asher Zachary had 6 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 1 blocked shot. Luke Holmberg had 5 points, 1 rebound and 1 assist. Landon Martinez made a 3-pointer for his 3 points and grabbed 1 rebound.

Jacob Miller had 2 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Zach Chance had 2 points and 1 rebound. Jared Miller had 2 points, 1 rebound and 1 assist. Nick Chance had 1 point, 1 assist and 1 blocked shot.

Așa Atherton and Dontrell Willard-Trass did not score for the Crusaders. Wllard-Trass contributed 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal.

Buhler made 24-of-46 shots (52%), including 13-of-20 3-pointers (65%), and 6-of-9 free throws (67%). The Crusaders’ defense held the Rockets to 11-of-39 field goal attempts (11-of-39), including 2-of-17 on 3-pointers (12%).

Buhler grabbed 23 rebounds, including 8 offensive boards.

Buhler (14-10) will play Hugoton (20-4) in the championship game at 5 p.m. Saturday at Hugoton. Hugoton defeated El Dorado 67-40.

Rose Hill finished the season with a 11-13 record and El Dorado finished with a 6-18 mark.
