Bullpup Sports Roundup: Girls Wrestling Places 5th in Eureka, Updates on Boys Swim & Bowling

Winter weather did not waver a busy week of McPherson High School athletics between Jan. 22-27.


GIRLS WRESTLING

The Bullpup Girls Wrestling team finished 5th in the 6th Annual Eureka Women’s Invitational on Jan. 23.

Amara Dossett and Heidi Fairchild both finished 3rd in their weight class. Allynn Ortiz and Juana Miguel Gaspar placed 4th. Bailee Floyd, Emily Reno, and Nahla Sechler placed 5th, and Alexis Mintzer placed 6th.

McPherson Girls and Boys Wrestling will host Senior Night on Wednesday, Jan. 28, hosting a Double Dual with Circle and Wellington.


BOYS SWIMMING

The Boys Swim team took part in the Buhler Invitational on Tuesday, Jan. 27.

McPherson placed 6th as a team, but had standout performances. The 200 Medley Relay team (Ben Bocox, Manny Morales, Beckett Schuckman, and Cooper Bohme) finished 3rd with 2:01.61. The 400 Freestyle Relay of Shuchman, Bohme, Bocox, and Kurt Mendez placed 3rd as well, setting a season-best time of 3:54.64.

Bohme individually finished 2nd in the 500 Freestyle and 4th in the 200 Freestyle, where he had a season-best 2:02.17 time. Schuckman placed 3rd in the 100 Butterfly.

The Bullpups will have a quick turnaround, participating at Campus on Thursday, Jan. 29.


BOWLING

The Bullpup Girls’ and Boys’ Bowling teams participated in two meets within the past week.

Both the girls and boys placed 10th in the Crusader Classic on Saturday, Jan. 24. Rayce Stiggins led the Bullpup boys with a 617 score, placing him 8th individually. McPherson’s girls were led by Ali Stevens’ score of 396, which placed her in 23rd. CLICK HERE to view the full results.

The Bowling teams then traveled to Great Bend for a meet with Great Bend and Hays. The varsity girls placed 2nd, as Stevens led with a 424 series score, placing 4th. Maddie Langworthy had a 363 series score to place 6th. The boys finished 3rd, led by Clayton Sloup’s 8th-place finish with a 523 score. CLICK HERE for the full results.

The teams will head to Augusta on Thursday, Jan. 29.
