McPHERSON, Kan. – A late fourth-quarter surge, thanks to scoring leader Maryn Sandbo and a double-double from Brooke Doile, helped McPherson High School Girls Basketball past El Dorado, 53-40, on Tuesday, Jan. 20.
The Bullpups outscored El Dorado 17-8 in the fourth quarter after leading 36-32 at the end of the third. Perimeter shots fell again for McPherson as they went 6/18 on three-point shots. Maryn Sandbo went 3/5 to have a game-high 13 points. Brooke Doile had 12 points and 11 rebounds. Her rebounding effort helped McPherson out-rebound El Dorado 42-25.
The Bullpups also did a good job drawing 21 fouls, however they struggled at the free-throw line, making 15 on 30 attempts. The defense in the second half was the difference-maker, forcing El Dorado to convert on 32% shooting.
The win for McPherson marks their third straight, moving them to 6-6 on the season. The team will get a much-needed break before preparing for the Mid America Classic. Their first-round matchup will be Thursday, Jan. 29, against Andover Central at 7:45 p.m. at the Roundhouse.
