McPherson High School’s 4-Speaker Debate team won the 4A State Title on Saturday, Jan. 17, held at Community Elementary School in Coffeyville.
The title is the school’s 4th in 4-Speaker Debate and their 10th overall. Under Aaron Schopper, it’s McPherson’s 5th Debate title, all coming within the past five years. It also comes just one year after finishing as State Runners-Up.
The team had a 10-4 win-loss record, finishing with 34 Ballots and 157 Speaker Points. The team is comprised of Affirmatives Stephanie Fonseca & Avery Unruh, Negatives Brenna Sullivan & Anne-Marie Holmes, and Alternates Landon Davis and McKenna Paul.
Breckyn Bauer and Hendrix Nelson finished as State Runners-Up in the 2-Speaker Debate, also held at Community Elementary School in Coffeyville.
