TOPEKA, Kan. – Sterling College Track had another record-breaking day at the 2026 Washburn Rust Buster Invitational on Friday, Jan. 16 with school records and personal bests being broken throughout the day.
For the men, Cedric Wilson had a record-breaking day in the high jump with a clearance of 1.99m (6-6.25) to finish third. Right behind him was teammate, and previous record holder, Charles Jones finishing fourth with a clearance of 1.94m (6-4.25). Wilson’s jump is the 11th highest in the NAIA this year.
Jones also had a strong showing in the triple jump, placing second with a mark of 14.49m (47-6.5). Also competing in the jumps were Kevin Jones and Tod Mastin who placed 29th and 35th in the long jump with marks of 5.83m (19-1.5) and 5.42m (17-9.5), respectively.
In the throws, Blake Robertson led the team with seventh place finishes in both the shot put and the weight throw with marks of 14.90m (48-10.75) and 16.91m (55-5.75), respectively. Also competing in the shot put was Brayden Kermode who placed 33rd with a throw of 10.48m (34-4.75. Kermode competed in the weight throw finishing 26th with a mark of 13.05m (42-9.75). Freshman Keaton Miller also competed in the weight throw where he threw 11.44m (37-6.5) to finish 39th.
On the track, Nazar Haydon and David Sullivan represented Sterling in the sprints. Haydon ran a 7.48 in the 60m dash to finish 88th while Sullivan ran a 54.25 in the 400m dash to finish 44th. The duo also ran in the 200m dash with Sullivan finishing 74th with a time of 24.18 and Haydon finishing 76th with a time of 24.22.
Ian Chrisler and Wesley Brantley also get in on the sprints, competing in the 300m dash with times of 39.28 and 40.10 to place 30th and 31st, respectively. The pair also competed in the 800m with Chrisler running a 2:17.18 to finish 80th and Brantley running a 2:19.90 to finish 86th.
In the distance races, Camryn Gantt led the Warriors in both the 1 Mile and 3000m run, placing 71st and 43rd with times of 4:49.97 and 9:53.79, respectively. Jace Gaston also competed in the distance races for Sterling. He finished 93rd in the 1 Mile with a time of 5:09.27 and 46th in the 3000m with a time of 10:31.83.
For the women, Belle Barnette made her indoor debut in the high jump, winning the women’s open division with a clearance of 1.60m (5-3), the 21st highest jump in the NAIA this season. She also competed in the 60m dash running a time of 8.29 to place 46th.
Briana Croisant was the loan thrower for the Lady Warriors competing in both the weight throw and shot put finishing 37th and 39th with marks of 10.66m (34-11.75) and 9.39m (30-9.25), respectively.
On the track, Claire Miller competed in the 800m run finishing 30th with a time of 2:38.23. Miller and Audrey Blake also competed in the 1 Mile where they ran times of 6:01.82 and 7:35.71 to place 52nd and 69th.

The Warriors will travel to Pittsburg, Kan. on Saturday, Jan. 24 to compete in the NAIA/JUCO Challenge.
