Buhler Varsity Teams Split Homecoming Games Against Clearwater

The Buhler High School girls and boys basketball teams hosted Clearwater Friday at the Jim Baker Fieldhouse.

The Buhler boys won 77-44 and the Clearwater girls defeated Buhler 33-29.

The Buhler boys led Clearwater 25-13 after one quarter, 43-27 at halftime and 67-40 after three quarters. The Crusaders outscored Clearwater 10-4 in the fourth quarter.

Buhler opened the game on an 11-0 run and stretched the lead to 20 points in the second quarter. Buhler scored 24 points in the third quarter to push the lead to 30.

Buhler shot 48% from the field (30-of-62).

Luke Holmberg scored 21 points and had 5 rebounds. Jacob Miller had 19 points and 7 rebounds. Isaiah Heredia scored 11 points and 5 assists.

The Clearwater girls led 8-3 at the end of the first quarter and 17-13 at halftime, 27-20 after three quarters. Buhler outscored Clearwater 9-6 in the fourth quarter.

Clearwater trailed only once (3-2) early in the first quarter, but never led by more than 7 points. Buhler tied the game at 29-29 on a 3-pointer by Kaia Edmond with 3:44 remaining in the game.

The difference in the game was at the free throw line, where Clearwater was 10-of-16 and Buhler made just 5-of-12.

Addy Keller, Kaia Edmond and Tori Tustian each scored 5 points for Buhler. Tustian pulled down 4 rebounds. Keller scored a career-high in points.

It was also homecoming night for Buhler. Jacob Miller was named homecoming king and Karsyn Martinez was named the homecoming queen.

The Buhler girls and boys compete in the Salina Invitational Thursday through Saturday at the Salina South, Salina Central and Kansas Wesleyan University gymnasiums.

The No. 2-seeded Buhler boys will play No. 7 Abilene at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Salina Central. The No. 5-seeded Buhler girls play No. 4 Salina Central at 6 p.m. Thursday at Salina Central.

The semifinals and consolation bracket games will take place Friday and the finals on Saturday.
