Recruiting News: Newberry, Ploutz to Play Football at Sterling College; Grizzle to Wrestle at Friends University

Sterling High School seniors Wyatt Newberry and Kevin Ploutz will stay at home to play football at Sterling College.

Both recently signed letters of intent.

Newberry and Ploutz helped the Sterling Black Bears win their first state championship since 1982.

In other signings of interest in Kansas:

• Lyons High School senior Kennedy Grizzle signed a national letter of intent Wednesday to continue her academic and wrestling career at Friends University. Grizzle is currently the school record holder for wins with 114.

• Hays-Thomas More Prep-Marian’s Caden Dinkel and Carson Liles officially signed Wednesday to continue both their academic and baseball careers.

Dinkel will attend Cloud County Community College and Liles is headed to Barton Community College.

• Smoky Valley High School’s Ty Heitschmidt signed to play baseball at Ottawa University.

• The Cloud County Community College baseball program had seven student-athletes sign early with NCAA Division I schools, the biggest early signing period ever in program history.

The seven Thunderbird baseball players to sign are: Simon Baker, Missouri State University; Evan Bogart, Wichita State University; Lucas Laukkanen, USC Upstate; Cole Linton, Tarleton State University; Joey Marino, USC Upstate; Cohen Nelson, University of Nebraska; and Stocton Timbrook, Kansas State University.
