HUTCHINSON, Kan. (November 24, 2025) – The Hutchinson Fire Department was dispatched to the 1200 block of East 30th at 22:43 hrs for an unconscious person.  While enroute dispatch advised that the circumstances were unknown but could be a gas or chemical issue.  Upon arrival HPD located two people on the West side of the building.  They made contact with them and were told there was another person inside and he was unconscious.  Crews made entry to assess the individual.  Upon entry into the structure their CO and 4 gas monitors went into alarm.  They quickly dragged the patient outside to fresh air.  The Captain contacted dispatch and requested extra units to respond for an unknown Hazmat situation.

The two patients were transported by Reno County EMS to the hospital for treatment and further evaluation.

The additional crews arrived to assist with the incident.  Their investigation found an extreme high level of carbon monoxide inside the building.  The building was opened up and ventilated using high flow electric fans until zero readings were found.

The Hutchinson Fire Department would like to thank Reno County EMS and Reno County emergency communications for their assistance at this incident.
