HUTCHINSON, Kan. (November 3, 2025) – Overnight, a train derailment occurred along the rail line from roughly 17th Avenue to 56th Avenue. As crews work to clear and repair the area, the crossing at 17th Avenue near Walmart is currently closed, and one lane of K-61 from 17th to 30th will also be closed to allow heavy equipment to be transported.
Please use caution in the area, watch for crews and detours, and allow extra time for your morning commute. We’ll share updates as they become available.
*Update: 17th crossing has reopened. One lane Northbound K-61 will remain closed.
