Griff Galyon scored two goals Tuesday, and the Hutchinson High boys soccer exorcised some demons by winning its Class 5A West Regional semifinals, beating Valley Center 4-1 on penalty kicks following a 2-2 tie.
Last season, the Salthawks hosted a first-round game against Andover, but after a 3-3 tie, Andove won on penalty kicks.
Galyon opened the scoring for the Salthawks and then added a goal in the second half, offsetting Valley Center’s two goals.
The win was Hutchinson’s second in a row, just the second time this season the Salthawks have won back-to-back games. They improved to 8-8-1 and have won seven of their last 11 games.
The 13th-seeded Salthawks will play for the regional championship on Thursday at Stryker Sports Complex against No. 5 Kapaun Mount Carmel, which beat Topeka Seaman 5-0 on Tuesday
