High School Football Roundup: Area Teams Clinch District Title

Hutchinson Central Christian 56, Norwich 0

The Hutchinson Central Christian Cougars routed Norwich 56-0 Friday night at Norwich.

Central Christian, ranked fifth in Kansas Eight-Man II, improved to 8-0. Norwich dropped to 1-7.

The first round of Kansas football playoffs start next Friday (Halloween Night).

Inman 22, Moundridge 7

Inman, No. 7 in Kansas Class 2A, defeated No. 9 Moundridge 22-7 Friday night at Moundridge to win a district title.

Inman led at halftime 16-7 and scored an insurance touchdown in the fourth quarter for the final score of 22-7.

Pratt 24, Cheney 7

The Pratt Greenbacks defeated the Cheney Cardinals 21-7 in a Kansas Class 3A district championship game Friday night at Pratt High School.

Pratt scored first with 5 minutes left in the first quarter. Cheney tied the score on a flea flicker to Sam Johnson. The score was tied 7-7 after one quarter.

The Greenbacks score just before the end of the first half to make the score 14-7. Pratt started the second quarter with a TD for a 21-7 lead (the halftime and third quarter score).

The Greenbacks added a field goal in the fourth quarter for the final score of 24-7.

Cunningham 58, Tescott 12

Cunningham, the No. 2 team in Kansas Six-Man, defeated No. 5 Tescott 58-12 Friday night at Tescott.

Cunningham won the District 2 title and Tescott was the runner-up.

Andale 57, Hesston 0

The Andale Indians, ranked No. 1 in Kansas Class 3A, routed the Hesston Swathers 57-0 Friday night at Andale.

Andale (8-0) scored its 57 points by halftime.

The starting time for the game was moved up to 6 p.m. in an attempt to avoid heavier weather in the evening hours, according to the Hesston Swathers Facebook page.

The Indians had 379 rushing yards and 119 passing yards on just 31 total plays. The defense held Hesston to 48 total yards.

Andale has outscored its opponents 526-63 in nine games.

Head coach Dylan Schmidt is now 106-4 in nine seasons entering the playoffs, with five state championships during that span.

The Indians are looking for their sixth state title in seven years.

Halstead 56, Lyons 13

The Halstead Dragons defeated the Lyons Lions 56-7 Friday night  at Lyons.

Halstead improved to 2-6 and Lyons fell to 0-8.

Halstead got on the scoreboard first in the opening quarter on a 6-yard touchdown run by Edric Zorn. The extra point by Carlos Martinez was good for a 7-0 lead.

Lyons tied the score at 7-7. Halstead’s Damien Whillock threw a 29-yard TD pass to Noah Diehl. Martinez’ PAT kick gave Lyons a 14-7 lead.

Whillock ran for a 10-yard TD and Martinez’ PAT kick made the score 21-7.

Reece Carmichael scored on a 2-yard run and Martinez’ fourth PAT kick made the score 28-7 at halftime.

In the third quarter, Whillock rushed for a 1-yard TD. Martinez booted his fifth extra point for a 35-7 lead.

Brock Odendahl ran for a 6-yard TD and Martinez’ sixth extra point made the score 42-7.

Carmichael scored again on a 9-yard TD run and Martinez kicked PAT No. 7 for a 49-7 lead.

Jacob Bennett’s 14-yard TD and Martinez’ eight PAT put Halstead up 56-7.

Lyons scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter to make the final score 56-13.
