Tate Engelland scored a late go-ahead goal on a long-range effort from about 40 yards out, and the Hutchinson High boys soccer team edged Buhler 3-2 on Monday at the Salthawk Sports Complex.
Hutchinson raced out to an early 2-0 lead, with Griff Galyon being at the heart of the action. The junior dynamo scored the second goal for the Salthawks, but Buhler soon clawed back into the game. Goals from Ryler Harnett and Reuben Harder knotted the game at 2 by halftime.
Hutchinson enjoyed a majority of possession in the second half, but didn’t find the breakthrough until late via Engelland’s goal.
It was Hutchinson’s sixth game decided by one goal or ending in a tie. Seven of the Salthawks’ eight games have had at least a combined five goals.
The Salthawks improved to 3-4-1 as a busy week gets started. They’ll travel Tuesday to Valley Center before returning home Thursday to take on Arkansas City.
