McPHERSON, Kan. — Ad Astra Radio is proud to announce Elyria Christian School Learning Center Coordinator Jennifer Swinney as the most recent recipient of the Ad Astra Radio Classroom Hero Award, presented by Peoples Bank and Trust.
Each month, Ad Astra Radio randomly selects a different educator, from community nominations, to receive the Classroom Hero Award, along with a “Thank You” gift basket. Gift items are courtesy of community partners, including Peoples Bank and Trust, Midway Motors and Stutzman’s Greenhouse.
Swinney, a Salina native now living in Moundridge, has been teaching at Elyria Christian School for ten years. She earned her teaching degree from Calvary University in Kansas City.
Swinney taught Kindergarten for one year, taught 2nd Grade for two years and has spent the past seven years working with dyslexic kids in the Learning Center.
Her favorite part about teaching has always been the kids.
“They’re amazing. They’re a joy,” Swinney said. “They’re such hard workers. It makes everything worth it.”
A nominator who submitted Swinney for the Classroom Hero Award said, “She goes above and beyond to help her students struggling to succeed.”
