ALLEN/NEOSHO COUNTY — One person was killed and four others injured in a crash early Tuesday evening on US 169 just north of the Allen/Neosho County line near Petrolia.
The Kansas Highway Patrol said a car driven by Morgan Wakefield, 29, of Mound City was northbound on US 169 near the 1150 Road interchange about 5:42 PM when he crossed the center line and struck head on a pickup driven by Shawn Pettenborg, 52, of Stockton.
Wakefield was pronounced dead at the scene. Pettenborg was taken to a Wichita hospital with reported serious injuries.
Three other passengers in the pickup, Angie Hale. 50 Caitlyn Hale, 31, and Lily Albright, 9, all from Independence, were taken to Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center with reported minor injuries.
