Playing their third straight nationally ranked opponent, the Cougars improved to 2-1-1 on the season while the Trailblazers slip to 1-2-1 overall. Barton now turns its attention to conference play, opening the Jayhawk Conference slate Wednesday at Seward County Community College in an 8:00 p.m. kickoff.
Calmon provided the breakthrough just 92 seconds in, curling a left-wing shot inside the far post for his second tally of the season. The early lead held into the halftime break, before Barton doubled its advantage in the 65th minute when Masaki Tsuji battled through a 1-on-1 with Lewis & Clark’s keeper Vitor Hennig, burying home his own rebound for a 2-0 edge.
Tsuji added his second goal and fourth of the year just five minutes later, capping Dahman Zucchini‘s setup with a pinpoint strike into the upper-90 extending the lead to 3-0
After pitching a shutout for the opening 79 minutes, Barton’s backline was caught off guard as Joao Lutz Rocha converted off a Raul Polo feed to put the Trailblazers on the board. The Cougars’ defense regrouped quickly, locking down over the final 10 minutes to shut the door on any comeback bid.
Goalkeeper Pedro Lisboa finished with seven saves, helping the Cougars withstand a 13-10 shot disadvantage. The Cougars placed six of their 10 attempts on frame, led by Tsuji’s three shots on target.
