Sports in Kansas social media highlighted Tanner Heckel, former Inman High School and Lyndon High School All-State performer who is a member of the University of Illinois football team.

Heckel only had one FBS offer out of high school.

Heckel, a former Sports in Kansas Eight Man I Player of the Year, 2A Basketball Player of the Year and multiple-time state track champion, shined Saturday for No. 11 Illinois.

The true sophomore had a sack, an interception and two tackles in the Illini’s 45-19 win over Duke.

Lyndon, with a population of about 1,000 people, has produced three active Division I football players — Miles Kitselman (Tennessee), Kaiden Massey (Kansas State)  and Heckel (Illinois).
