Buhler Girls Tennis Squad Competes in Two Varsity Meets, Two JV Meets Last Week

The Buhler High School girls varsity tennis team competed at two tournaments last week and the Crusader junior varsity participated in one.

The Buhler varsity team placed fifth at the Maize Invitational varsity meet on Thursday and third at the Wellington Varsity Quad on Tuesday. The JV placed fifth at the McPherson JV meet on Tuesday and sixth at the Salina South JV Invitational on Thursday.

Sofia Spies placed first in No. 1 singles at the Maize meet on Thursday and Addy Tech placed fifth at No. 2 singles.

The No. 1 doubles team of Katelyn Harding and Payton Barnes placed fifth and the No. 2 doubles team of Payton Thompson and Danyka Sutton placed seventh.

In Tuesday’s varsity meet at Wellington, Addy Tech and Audrey Koster placed second at No. 1 singles and No. 2 singles.

The No. 1 doubles team of Danyka Sutton and Payton Thompson the No. 2 doubles team of Hannah Nuest and Brailey McIntire both placed third.

In Tuesday’s JV meet at McPherson, Nora Busenbark placed second at No. 1 singles and Aslynn Chambers was sixth at No. 2 singles.

McKenna Sponsel and Sydney Fluck placed fifth in No. 2 doubles and Naomi Cano and Evey Brooks placed seventh at No. 1 doubles.

The Buhler JV girls No. 2 doubles team of Macie Proffitt and Zoe Keele placed fourth at the Salina South JV meet.

Jenna Proffitt placed fifth at No. 1 singles, Addie Maxfield and Lakyn Trautman placed sixth at No. 1 doubles and Abigail Ehret was seventh at No. 2 singles.

Saturday’s varsity meet at Salina Central was eventually canceled after multiple rain delays.

The Buhler varsity girls tennis squad will compete at the Salina South High School Invitational on Sept. 18. The meet starts at 1 p.m.

Other schools competing in the tournament are Salina South, Classical School of Wichita, Clay Center, McPherson and Valley Center.
