Sterling College’s Sondre Jensen and Zach Surface both carded a final score of 219 to tie for fourth place at the Southwestern Christian Invitational on Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 2-3. This tournament, hosted at the Earlywine Golf Course in Oklahoma City, Okla., marked the first golf event of the fall season for the Warriors, adding an extra layer of anticipation and excitement for the team.
The Earlywine Golf Course has a par of 72 and a yardage of 6,727. Through three rounds the Warriors shot a total score of 909, 45 over par) to place second as a team, two strokes behind Seminole State (OK) in first..
Jensen and Surface both finished tied for fourth place with a final score of 219, three over par. Jensen improved each round with scores of 76, 71, and 72, showcasing consistency and resilience throughout the tournament.
Surface had a strong start with a 73 in the first round, followed by a solid 71 in the second, but slipped to a 75 in the final round.
Anders Hermansen claimed 18th place with a final score of 236, 20 over par. Hermansen’s best performance came in the final round, where he carded a 75, showing significant improvement from his earlier rounds of 79 and 82.
Right behind him was Axel Vogt who finished in 21st with a final score of 238, 22 over par. Vogt’s performance was steady across the first two rounds, recording identical scores of 80, and he improved slightly in the final round with a 78.
Jonathan Shelton ended the tournament in 30th position with a final score of 250, 34 over par. Shelton started with rounds of 80 and 79 but faced challenges in the final round, posting a 91.
The Warriors will be back in action at the Carmichael Cup hosted by Bethany College on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 9-10 at the Salina Municipal Golf Course.
