LINDSBORG, Kan. — The Lindsborg City Council Monday approved the design for an archway project on the Olson Street side of Swensson Park. The Lindsborg Kiwanis Club is funding the project in honor of its 75th anniversary last year, and planning for the project has been in progress since last summer. Kiwanis member John Marshall provided a history of the project, and discussions that involved city staff over the past several months.

Originally the plan was to place the arch along Main Street, however earlier this year a new idea surfaced to place it on the park’s south side, in line with the pillars along Olson Street. Marshall said those pillars along with rows of trees form a path from the site to the park’s center.

Park Director Noah Flores said the project will also include lighting, and plans are under development for a sidewalk from the arch location into the Anna Swensson Garden at the center of the park.

Council members accepted a bid from Salina Remodeling for repair work on the restrooms adjoining City Hall. Their bid for replacement of venting, crack repair, sheetrocking, and replacement of partitions that are original to the structure came to $6,600, with the city providing the partitions that had already been ordered.

Finance Director David Hay provided an update to the Council on the city’s proposed 2026 budget, and outlined adjustments to what had been earlier published. These were made based on feedback the Council provided at a meeting Aug. 18. Hearings on the budget and exceeding the Revenue Neutral Rate will be held Sept. 15, with the RNR hearing at 6 and the budget hearing itself to be part of that night’s regular meeting at 6:30.

The Council also approved a designation of the Raymer Society’s “Poetry at the Barn” on Sept. 25 as a non-profit organization event promoting the arts, which will allow it to provide complimentary alcoholic and cereal malt beverages during the event.

City Administrator Tanner Faust and City Clerk Roxie Sjogren were designated voting delegates for the League of Kansas Municipalities meeting later this fall. The Council also ratified the appointment of Hank Kummer as a new member of the Planning Commission.
