SALINA, Kan. — Following more than two hours of executive sessions, current interim City Manager Jacob Wood was selected Monday evening by the Salina City Commission to fill the post on a permanent basis.
After the vote Wood thanked the Commission for placing their confidence in him, stating it was a long time goal of his to be in this position. “I had intentionally taken positions throughout my career that I thought would prepare me,” Wood said, adding “I think that I am ready to do that, and I appreciate your confidence moving forward, and I am looking forward to making the city of Salina a better place.”
Wood brings over 13 years of executive local government experience with multiple municipalities in Kansas, along with having served as a logistics officer for the United States Army Reserve for 19 years. He holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Public Administration degrees from Kansas State University, and did an internship with the city.
Wood has been serving as Interim City Manager since the February 7th departure of Mike Schrage who announced in late December he would be stepping down to take the City Manager position in Warrensburg, Missouri, a move for which family considerations were a major factor.
He was one of three finalists interviewed for the position earlier this month. City Commissioners worked with Government Professional Solutions in the City Manager search. His initial contract will have an annual salary of $235,000 a year.
