McPHERSON, Kan. — McPherson City Commissioners will hold a public hearing on their proposed 2026 budget and to exceed the Revenue Neutral Rate Tuesday morning at 9 as part of their regular meeting.
The published budget calls for a total property tax levy of 53.238 mills, which would be about six tenths of a mill less than the 2025 levy but about 1.2 mills over what would generate the same amount of property tax dollars as was raised for the 2025 budget. This would work out to just over $279,000 in additional tax revenue to the city.
Within the specific line items for which property taxes are assessed, the parts of the levy funding the general and debt service funds are being increased, while other funds will show a slight decrease.
Property taxes are proposed to generate $8.287 million towards an overall budget of over $66.6 million, which includes reserves and those funds that receive revenue from sources other than property taxes. The budget also reflects just under $9.9 million in transfers, which would be less than for 2025.
As set out by state law, the Revenue Neutral Rate hearing will be held first, then the budget hearing.
