ERIE, Kan. — A rural Erie man who is a registered sex offender has been arrested for child sex crimes.
Kansas Bureau of Investigation agents and Neosho County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 42-year-old Peter Hawkinson Wednesday morning after a search warrant was executed at a location in the 22000 block of Ottawa Road, about eight miles north of Erie.
The case began after the KBI’s Child Victims Unit received a cyber-tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in May Hawkinson was booked into the Neosho County Jail on 24 counts of sexual exploitation of a child and one of violating the Kansas Offender Registration Act.
Hawkinson, according to the KBI’s Public Offender Registry, is under a lifetime registration requirement for 2016 convictions of aggravated indecent solicitation of a child. Hawkinson was placed on Community Corrections after he was convicted from which he was discharged in 2019.
The KBI said in a release the investigation is ongoing, and the case is expected to be prosecuted by the Neosho County Attorney’s Office.
