According to the Kansas State Treasurer, one and seven Kansans are owed a portion of over $600 million in unclaimed assets held by the State Treasurer’s Office. In 2024, the average unclaimed property payout was $630. This money comes from forgotten bank accounts, stocks, bonds, insurance premium overpayments, refunds, abandoned safe deposit boxes and other property.

The State Treasurer’s Office aims to locate as many rightful owners and heirs as possible.

“Every dollar returned is another dollar filtered back into local communities, which is great for all of Kansas,” Johnson stated. “For that reason, I encourage everyone to search for their name, along with the names of friends and family.”
