McPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson Police Department took 13,861 calls for service during 2024, an increase of 1.221 from the prior year. McPherson Police Chief Mikel Golden shared local statistics from the 2024 Kansas Bureau of Investigation crime report with McPherson City Commissioners Tuesday.
From those calls for service, 1,898 reports were generated, an increase of 140. Officers wrote 1,488 traffic citations, an increase of 304 from 2023, and the number of arrests made in the city of McPherson during 2024 was 408, a decrease of five from 2023.
The number of property crimes reported in 2024, at 200, was up one from 2023, but violent crime numbers were down one to 18. Two rape reports were taken, half the number from the year before.
174 theft reports were taken, up ten from 2023, and Chief Golden said their crime analyst indicated much of the increase came from reports at Walmart.
