McPHERSON, Kan. — McPherson City Commissioners Tuesday approved the 2025-26 crossing guard and school resource officer agreements with USD 418. Under the agreements, USD 418 covers half of the cost of salary and benefits for crossing guards and the resource officers at the middle and high schools along with various equipment and office space for them.
Related to this the Commission approved hiring of a new crossing guard pending pre-employment testing. Also approved was disposal via online auction of a 1995 rescue truck, which was replaced with a new unit last year.
Commissioners approved an agreement with the Kansas Department of Transportation related to a grant for construction of a multi-use trail extending from the south side of Avenue A about 200 feet east of Clubhouse Drive, that will tie into an earlier phase of an overall sidewalk project.
Three change orders were approved including another on the Euclid extension of the Elm Street drainage project adding $2,250 to cover a trench drain installation on the west end of the project. Other charge orders include a contract deduction of about $97 on the design work on the North High Drive box bridge repair, and a $90 reduction on the building extension project at the Wastewater Treatment Plant as material cost was less than projected.
Commissioners also approved payment of a just over $8,200 bid for chemical treatment of over 3,900 feet of sewer lines in the Sycamore area.
The Commissioners approved a conditional job offer to hire Kristen Robinson as Payroll and Benefits Coordinator for the city. Kristen brings over a decade of administrative experience, including time working in legal and medical office settings with such things as financial reconciliation, invoicing, and confidential record keeping. Pending completion of pre-employment requirements, Robinson will start Aug. 18.
Hiring of a seasonal worker for the Park Department was approved, and Finance director Richard Miller also recognized his two summer interns, Denton Whiteside and Courtney Delaney, who assisted on many projects this summer.
