LAWRENCE, Kan. (Phog.net) – Bill Self said Kansas was still looking for one more player when he met with reporters on Monday. Well, on Friday, KU landed a new commitment from an international player. Nginyu Ngala is headed to KU, his agent tells 247Sports. Ngala spent last season at Laurentian University in Ontario and he has previous experience at Dalhousie University.
This past season, the 5-foot-10 guard started 22 games, averaging 29 minutes per contest. He averaged 14.9 points per game while shooting 40.4% from the field and 39.2% from 3. He also chipped in with 4.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists per contest, according to stats on the Ontario University Athletics website.
Ngala set a season high with a 30 points performance in January, knocking down 10 of his 14 attempts with seven made 3s. For the season, Ngala scored 20-plus points on four occasions. He made three or more 3s on 13 occasions.
Prior to his time at Laurentian University, he played for Dalhousie University. He was a three-year contributor there, where he played in 51 games. He averaged 14.7 points per game while shooting 41% from the floor and 34% from 3.
Ngala has experience as a lead guard, which fits what Self described earlier this week.
“In my opinion, needs to be a guy that can, that can at least run a team, play a point, maybe have some experience, shoot the ball,” Self said. “But you know, if something were to happen and somebody were to go down, just as an insurance policy as well. So we’re looking hopefully to get something done with that.”
