JUNCTION CITY, Kan. – The Great Bend Bat Cats put an end to a three-game losing streak defeating the Junction City Brigade 7-3 Monday, July 7, one day after the Brigade blew out the Bat Cats 13-0.
Great Bend put up two runs in the 2nd to take an early lead after an RBI single from Tony Moore and an RBI walk by Kyle Walker. The Brigade came back to put up three runs in the 4th inning to take the lead, but tied up the game again in the 5th after an RBI fielder’s choice from Elias Leon.
The game would remain tied until the top of the 9th inning. The Bat Cats loaded the bases to lead off the 9th, but JJ Fontana scored the go-ahead run on a passed ball. After TJ Shaw walked, Andrugh Yee hit a bases-clearing double to score three runs, putting Great Bend up 7-3.
Carson Umphres entered the game in the 2nd inning, but pitched the rest of the way to earn the win. He threw 7 2/3 innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out four batters. Tony Moore led the Bat Cat offense going 3-5, but Andrugh Yee led in RBI’s after driving home three runs in the 9th.
The Bat Cats are now 15-10 on the season. They are off Tues., July 8, but will face the Hutchinson Monarchs on the road Wed., July 9.
