WICHITA, Kan. – The Burlington Wildcat track and field teams turned in some stellar performances in individual events and relays at the KSHSAA State Track & Field Championships this weekend. Two athletes turned in meet record times in sprints and two girls relay teams took the top mark.
On the girls side, Keely Hoback started the stellar weekend for Burlington by qualifying for the finals in the 100m hurdles and 200m dash on Friday. On Saturday morning, she got an early start on a great day, taking home the individual title in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.18, which set a new 3A state meet record, previously held by Burlington graduate Katie Guevel in 2007. Hoback brought home the third place medal in the 200m dash on Saturday evening, but she was also part of the 4x100m relay team that took the 3A state title. She joined Alexa Ratzlaff, Olivia Lyons and Haylei Potter to record the top time of 49.19 in the finals. Lyons and Potter also helped secure the 4x400m relay state title along with Mac Medlock and Lyra Codney in a time of 4:04.15.
In boys events, Burlington’s Brody Anderson stood out above the rest in the short sprints. He qualified for the finals in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes on Friday. Saturday morning, he took the 100m title in a time of 10.49 and finished his weekend with a bang, winning the 200m state championship in a meet record time of 21.18.
Also winning a state title from the area was Canton Fitzmaurice of Chanute. He had the top throw this season in the 4A boys shot put and proved to be the best again on Saturday, winning the gold with a mark of 54’5 ¼”. Chanute also brought home a third place team trophy on the boys side.
In all, there were 26 events that brought home state medals from Cessna Stadium over the weekend. Full results can be found below for the entire meet and broken down with Ad Astra Radio area competitors.
