COLBY, Kan. (KJCCC.org) – Combining for eight wins last week and continuing to hold down the top two spots in the latest NJCAA Division 2 volleyball poll for a third straight week, top-ranked Cowley’s Laura Bonomi and Hanna Darvas along with number two-ranked Johnson County’s Carlie Martin have been named Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division 2 Volleyball Players of the Week for week four.
Offensive Player of the Week (Laura Bonomi – Cowley) – Bonomi recorded three of her four double-doubles on the season this past week against conference foe Allen County, NJCAA DI Ranger college, and North Platte Community College as the Tigers went a perfect 5-0. Passing at a 2.4 passer rating on the week Bonomi had 14 service aces to go along with 62 kills. Currently, Bonomi ranks sixth in the NJCAA in kills per set and leads the KJCCC in kills per set while ranking in the top 5 in hitting percentage and second in service aces per set. Bonomi also recently recorded her 600th career kill at Cowley and is averaging 4.29 kills per set and 3.32 digs per set on the season.
Setter of the Week (Hanna Darvas – Cowley) Darvas recorded her first career double-double against conference foe Allen County with 51 assists and 15 digs while registering 14 kills on the week in addition to her 174 assists at 11.60 assists per set. Leading all of NJCAA Division 2 volleyball in assists per set, Darvas leads a Cowley offense that is averaging 14.11 kills per set and a hitting percentage of .387 – both of which are tops in NJCAA Division 2. Cowley also leads the nation in assists per set at 13.54 and total points per set at 18.7.
Defensive Player of the Week (Carlie Martin – Johnson County) – Martin had another big week for the second-ranked Lady Cavaliers by recording 58 digs over three victories for an average of 5.80 digs per set. In a 3-1 win over Des Moines Area CC, Martin established a new season high with 32 digs. Through 13 matches, Martin has topped double figures in digs 12 times. She currently ranks third in the conference with 205 digs on the season.
