STERLING, Kan. – Sterling College fell to Friends University, 75-58, on Wednesday, Jan. 7. Despite Sterling’s efforts, Friends maintained a lead for most of the game and capitalized on a 15-2 run late in the second half.

Sterling opened the game with an early lead, as Julian Smith connected on a 3-pointer assisted by Jaivion Reed. The team maintained momentum with strong ball movement, highlighted by Reed’s multiple assists, including one to Ziri Blackwood for another 3-pointer. Reed also contributed defensively, securing both defensive rebounds and a steal that led to a scoring opportunity.

Despite the Warrior’s early efforts, Friends managed to counter with efficient shooting. The visitors gained traction with key plays, including a 3-pointer from Ringo Deng, and took control late in the half. Sterling trailed 34-22 at the end of the first half, as the Falcons ended the half with a scoring surge, outscoring Sterling 17-4 and extending their lead with a last-second 3-pointer by Randy Wolf, Jr.

Sterling opened the second half by securing an early basket from Chris Drake, narrowing the gap to 34-24. Despite initial turnovers, Sterling responded with a series of scoring plays, notably a layup by Smith following a fast break steal at 15:16, which cut the Falcons’ lead to 39-31.

Camren Johnson made a significant impact with a tip-in and a subsequent free throw to bring the score to 39-29. The team continued to find opportunities, including a three-pointer by Damond Daniels at 7:57, bringing the score to 51-46. However, Friends countered with successful shooting from beyond the arc and free throws, extending their lead.

The half concluded with the Warriors capitalizing on defensive rebounds and a late layup by Jacob Babino, closing the half at 75-58 in favor of the Falcons.

Drake recorded a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds, showcasing his presence on the boards. Daniels made an impact from beyond the arc, scoring 15 points with five 3-pointers and adding two steals. Reed contributed 10 points and facilitated the offense with four assists. Smith added five points and two steals, helping the defensive effort.
