Mary Ann O’HanlonLyons, KS

Mary Ann O’Hanlon, 95, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away August 31, 2026, at Sandstone Heights Nursing Home, Little River, Kansas. She was born April 22, 1931, in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of Leo and Matilda (Novak) Lastovica. Mary Ann has resided in Lyons since 1962, formerly of Liberal, Kansas. She graduated from North High School, Omaha, with the class of 1949. Mary Ann was a homemaker and worked several jobs outside of the home throughout her life, including a secretary for the president of Sterling College. She was a classically trained pianist and began playing at her church at the age of 15 and continued playing piano until August 2026. Mary Ann was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Lyons, where she played the pipe organ and piano for many years. Richard and Mary Ann co-founded the Presbyterian Charismatic Communion of Kansas during the 80’s and were active for several years during that timeframe. She loved playing the piano and organ, arts and crafts, swimming, and sailing her small sailboat at the lake. As an avid swimmer, she qualified to swim the English Channel in the mid 40’s, however her chance was interrupted by the start of World War II. On July 30, 1951, Mary Ann was united in marriage with Richard “Dick” O’Hanlon at the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Omaha, Nebraska. He preceded her in death on September 8, 2021. She is also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Robert Lastovica, Milton Lastovica, her oldest brother Leo F Lastovica who was killed in action during WWII and is buried at the Lorraine American Cemetery and Memorial in France; and granddaughter, Patricia Winget. Mary Ann is survived by her five children, Gail Wolfe, Patrick O’Hanlon, Carol Woodbridge (Stephen), David O’Hanlon (Kathy), and Jim O’Hanlon (Tamara); ten grandchildren, Monica Gibson (Jason), Robert Wolfe (Tracy), Amanda Perry (Ben), Ashley Behr (Justin), Heather McEwen (Colin), Joshua Winget, Johnathan Winget, Chris O’Hanlon, Niki O’Hanlon, Michael O’Hanlon; and many great-grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held October 3rd, 2026, at 1:00 P.M., at the Celebration Centre, Lyons. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the local Food Bank in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
