Martha Lee Holmes, 70, of Haven, died November 26, 2025, at Hospice House in Hutchinson. She was born August 3, 1955, in Kansas City, MO, to Norman L. and Norma L. (Goddard) Voigts.
Martha grew up in Lenexa, where she graduated from Shawnee Mission Northwest high school in 1973. After graduation, she went to Kansas State University, getting her degree in Animal Husbandry in 1977. Martha worked as a sales representative for insurance agencies in Gardner and then for the Rural Messenger in Haven. She found great joy in investing her time and care in her church and her community. Martha was an anonymous philanthropist who supported veterans, local shelters, and community organizations. Her caring heart and devoted compassion for others will be dearly missed.
On May 6, 1983, Martha married Jay Dean Holmes, the love of her life, at the Reno County courthouse in Hutchinson. They were married for 31 years, 10 months, 22 days, and now for eternity.
She is survived by: her sister, Alice Moeller and husband Dave of Edmond, OK; brother, Charles “Chip” Voigts and wife Karen of Edgerton; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Cremation has taken place.
A Celebration of Life will be 1 p.m. Monday, December 1, 2025, at Haven United Methodist Church, 201 N. Kansas St., Haven. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date in Haven Priest Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice House in Hutchinson or Haven United Methodist Church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
