Linda Lou Laidlaw SteinerYates Center, KS

Linda Lou Laidlaw Steiner, 81, of Yates Center, KS passed away Sunday, December 7, 2025. Linda was born November 7, 1944, to Tom and Ramola Laidlaw of Yates Center, KS. Linda grew up in the hay fields with her brother H.T. of Yates Center helping with the family hay company. She was a fifth-generation landowner, which began in 1884 when the Laidlaw family moved to Yates Center and started the Thomas Laidlaw and Sons Hay Company. Linda was proud of her family history and of her town, notably when Yates Center was named “Prairie Hay Capital of the World.”

Linda had fond memories of riding her horse through the hay fields to Parallel country school for 1st and 2nd grades. She remembered being excited about going to school in Yates Center. While in high school Linda worked as a car hop at the Tip Top Drive Inn. She enjoyed her time in high school where she was a cheerleader and Homecoming Queen, graduating in 1962.

After high school, Linda attended a business school in Wichita, Kansas while she worked as a telephone operator. On June 24th, 1967, she married Bill Steiner of Yates Center. They were married 50 years and had two sons, Chad and Bret Steiner. Chad and his wife Susan have three children Zach, Cole, and Ryan and live in Overland Park, KS.  Bret lives in Manhattan, KS.

Linda ran the Rainbow House Day Care in Yates Center and spent years helping babysit her grandchildren. In 2011 she moved in to take care of her cousin Steve Smith when his mother passed away. She loved family and friends and riding horses. She loved Elvis Presley, country music, talking on the phone, and reading books. Linda had an infectious smile and laugh, and she enjoyed telling stories.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec 13th, at the Yates Center United Methodist Church with lunch to follow. Memorials may be made to Yates Center United Methodist Church, in care of Campbell Funeral Home PO Box 188 Yates Center, KS 66783.
