1960-2025
Gerald George Polreis, 65, of Nickerson, died December 7, 2025, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. He was born October 7, 1960, in Parkston, SD, to Joseph W. and Hildegard C. (Smith) Polreis.
Gerald was raised on a dairy farm with his eleven siblings. He was a Journeyman Tuck Pointer for over 42 years at Mid-Continental Restoration. Gerald loved his job and was a very dedicated worker. He enjoyed spending time with his family and “piddling around” the house doing chores and yardwork. Gerald served in the Army National Guard Reserves.
On January 13, 1995, he married Vicky Irene Cunningham, in Fort Worth, TX.
Gerald is survived by: his wife of over 30 years, Vicky Polreis of Nickerson; daughter, Katrina “Kat” (Kevin) Chappell of Hutchinson; son, Ryan Moore of Nickerson; granddaughter, Mia Moore; brothers, John Polreis, Dennis (Reberta) Polreis, Alvin Polreis, Martin (Tina) Polreis, all of Parkston, SD, Leroy Polreis of Mitchell, SD, Micheal (Dee) Polreis of Sioux Falls, SD, James (Lori) Polreis of Delmont, SD; sisters, Kathleen (Douglas) Bormann of Parkston, SD and Jolene (David) Bowman of Plainview, NE; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; brothers, Gordon Polreis and Tom Polreis; sisters-in-law, Ester Polreis and Brenda Polreis.
Cremation has taken place. Celebration of Life service will be held in the summer of 2026 in South Dakota.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
