EUGENE “GENE” AUGUST HENNING

Eugene (Gene) August Henning died Nov. 14, 2025 in Pratt. He was born to Anthony and Emma (Mertens) Henning on December 30th, l934. He was the fifth child of seven born to that union.

He attended St. Peter’s Catholic School and then helped on the family farm.

On August 23rd, l955, he married the love of his life, Wanda Price.  Their union was blessed with four children.  Gene and Wanda lived the majority of their lives in the Nashville/Zenda Community where they farmed and raised their family.

Gene served his community by serving on the local school board as well as coaching the kids summer ball teams.

Gene was a lifelong farmer and cattleman.  He loved to fish, play pitch, horseshoes, going to the casino and having a cold red beer.

Gene was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Zenda, as well as a member of the Willowdale Knights of Columbus.

Gene will be laid to rest in the St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Zenda.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Wanda; brothers Julius (Fritz), Robert (Bob), Leonard, and Anthony (Junior); and great- grandson, Anson K. Henning.

Gene is survived by his children, Rhonda (John) Mattal of Nashville; Teresa (Bill) Knowles of Kingman; Allen (Kriste) Henning of Nashville; Brian (Tammy) Henning of Cheney; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sisters Joan Schwartz and DeeDee (Jerome) Elsen; brother-in-law Layle (Rosalea) Price; and sister-in-law Vera (Bob) Henning.

Gene will be greatly missed!

Graveside services will be 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 19. 2025, at St. John Catholic Church Cemetery, Zenda, Kansas. Friends may call from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Livingston Funeral Home in Kingman.
