ELAINE FAYE BROWN
1934-2025

Elaine Faye Brown 91, died 12/8/2025 in Kingman, Kansas. She was born 2/20/1934 in Pretty Prairie, Kansas to Joe and Della (Waltner) Graber. She, her twin sister, Jane, and brother Claire attended a one room country school a few miles from the family farm in Pretty Prairie. Elaine graduated high school in 1952 and went on to attend Bethel College in Newton, Kansas the following fall. She graduated from Bethel in May of 1954 with an Associate of Arts degree in Elementary Education. After graduating, Elaine accepted a teaching position in Concordia, Kansas. Elaine taught second grade for two years in Concordia, Kansas. She then returned to school at Friends University in Wichita, Kansas and earned her Bachelor of Science degree. While attending Friends University, Elaine met Connie Brown from Friendswood, Texas. They would soon be married in a double wedding ceremony together with her twin sister and her fiancé at The First Mennonite Church of Pretty Prairie, Kansas on December 27, 1957. After graduating from Friends, that following summer in 1958, Elaine and Connie moved back to his hometown of Friendswood, Texas. While there, Elaine taught school at League City, Texas for two years before becoming a stay-at-home mother in November of 1961 to a son, Joel, born in Houston, Texas. In 1964, Elaine, Connie and their son moved to Enid, Oklahoma where Elaine's twin sister, her husband and their sons were living. In December of 1964, Elaine and Connie welcomed a daughter, Rhonda. In 1974, Elaine and her husband moved closer to her hometown and purchased property to start a family farm that she then helped manage.

Elaine was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a very hard worker and an amazing provider. There were always yummy homemade desserts waiting in the kitchen for anyone who visited. She loved her Lord Jesus and gave generously to expand His Kingdom. Her hobbies consisted of spending time with her family, playing with her great-grandchildren and watching football. She will be very missed.

She was preceded in death by: parents, Joe and Della Graber, twin sister, Jane Hays, son, Joel D. Brown and son-in-law, Curtis Alfers.

Survivors include: husband, Connie Brown, daughter, Rhonda Alfers, grandchildren, Andie (Joe) Carroll, Spencer (Stephanie) Brown, Taylor (Sara) Alfers, Miranda (Sean) Osler, and great grandchildren, Katie and Joel Brown, Peter, Noah, and Jeremiah Carroll, and Tatum and Arie Osler.
