1955-2025
Duane Joseph Hampel, 70, of Garden Plain. peacefully passed away on Friday, November 14, 2025.
Duane was the devoted husband of Julie (Bergkamp) and the proud father of Damon (Adriana), Aimee, Erin, and Megan (Marcus). He was the doting and delighted grandpa of Caitlyn, Malachi, and Hope, who brought immeasurable joy to his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Norbert an Mariann (Eck) Hampel; father-in-law, Walt Bergkamp; mother-in-law, Thelma Hein Bergkamp Ast, step-father-in-law, Julius Ast; and his sister, Janet.
Duane was a dependable and loyal brother to Cindy Hampel, Steve (Dawn) Hampel, Kevin (Monica) Hampel, and Donna (Gaylon) Edwards. He was a reliable, mischievous, and endlessly entertaining brother-in-law to Cindy (Ray,d.) Gunn, Mike (DD) Bergkamp, Ken (Gail) (Bergkamp, Lila (Martin) Kerschen, John (Julie) Bergkamp, Patty (Gary) Geiger, and Janell (Barry) Hogan. He was a supportive and goofy uncle to 23 nieces and nephews and 26 great-nieces and great-nephews.
Duane was a friend to all - often up to no good and rarely sorry about it. Despite his immense fear of snakes and being an easy target for jump scares, he was always able to laugh at himself, at nothing at all, and at things he probably shouldn't have.
Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 6:00pm Sunday, November 16, 2025 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 615 N. Main Street, Garden Plain, KS. Funeral Mass will be Monday, November 17, 2025 at 10:30am, also at the church.
