Funeral services for Charles Wilbur Woelk, 92, who died Sunday, Dec. 7, at Bethesda Home in Goessel, will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, December 14, 2025 at Goessel Church. The services will be livestreamed at www.facebook.com/www.goesselchurch.org. Private family burial will take place at the Goessel Mennonite Church Cemetery. Family will meet with friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, December 13 at Bethesda Home.
Born June 6, 1933, to John and Anna (Franz) Woelk on a farm near Goessel, Charles graduated from Goessel High School in 1951 and was united in marriage to Mary Ann Nickel on June 14, 1954. The couple moved to Denver, where Charles completed his 1-W service in the kitchen of General Rose Hospital.
Upon returning to Goessel, Charles began working for Hesston Corporation, from which he retired after 33 ½ years in 1988. He then started a second career of more than two decades in the maintenance department of Bethesda Home.
Charles was a talented musician, playing mainly guitar and dobro. For many years, he was part of a family bluegrass gospel group, Brothers and Sisters. He also traveled extensively, covering all 50 states and most of the Canadian provinces by RV and bus.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, sons Mark (Harriet) of Goessel, Robert (Kathy) of Hillsboro, Rick (Denise) of Goessel, daughter Anita (Arlen) Goertzen of Box Elder, S.D., eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
