Cecilia HillGarnett, KS

Effie "Cecilia" Hill, age 86, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, December 5, 2025.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Greenwood and Julia Stone Greenwood, husband, Ivan G. Hill, and siblings Elsie Mang, Esther Chavez, Phoebe Paul-Mott, Paul Greenwood, and Francis Van Etten.

Cecilia was born March 29, 1939 in Tripp County, South Dakota. She was the youngest daughter of six to WWI veteran, James Greenwood, and Julia Stone Greenwood.
She was a proud member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe and carried her heritage with her throughout her life.

Cecilia grew up in rural South Dakota and was a survivor of the cultural erasure at St. Joseph's residential school in South Dakota. She lived at home with her parents through much of her younger years and loved to travel. Her early adventures eventually brought her to Kansas, where she met the love of her life, Ivan. They married on December 2, 1963, at Sacred Heart Church in Presho, South Dakota. This union was blessed with seven children.

Cecilia was a dedicated homemaker and an active member of her church community. She was known for her warmth, humor, and ability to make everyone feel welcome. She loved traveling, long scenic drives, bingo nights, gardening, her animals, Dairy Queen treats, and Cherry Vanilla Dr. Peppers from Sonic. Above all though, she cherished time with her family.

She is survived by children, Russell Hill and wife Gina of Marivelles Bataan, Philippines; Gladys Cabrera and husband Benigno of Hugoton, Kansas; Audrey White and husband James of Ottawa, Kansas; Ivan A. Hill and wife Janet of Burlington, Kansas; Donna Hill of Garland, Texas; Brian Hill of Garnett, Kansas; and Carmen Bartholomew and husband Mike of Garnett, Kansas; 21 grandchildren; and 23 great grandchildren, many friends and extended family.

A Rosary will be held at 5:00 P.M. on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Garnett, followed by a visitation from 5:30 to 7:00 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 A.M.,on Thursday, December, 11, 2025, at Holy Angels Catholic Church, Garnett. Burial will follow at St. Teresa's Catholic Cemetery in Westphalia, Kansas.
