Avis Chartier
1936-2025

Avis Audrey Chartier, 89, passed away November 25, 2025.  She was born November 18, 1936, to Rev. John F. and Doris Lippe in Morganville, KS.  After graduating high school in Miltonvale, KS, she moved to Salina, KS, and attended Brown Mackie College enrolling in accounting classes.  In 1955 she married her high school sweetheart, Keith Chartier, and they celebrated their 70th anniversary this year.  In 1964 Avis and Keith moved from Salina to Chanute, KS, with their young daughter, Candace.  Shortly after, they had a son, Kevin, and moved to Topeka in 1966.  They lived in Topeka for 57 years before moving to the Kansas Christian Home in Newton, KS, to be closer to Candace and her family.   Avis worked for different accounting firms in her career, including Dean Lemon, and Summers, Spencer, and Cavanaugh.  Avis continued taking some accounting classes at Washburn University while still working. She was often recognized for her expertise, knowledge, accounting skills, and attention to detail.  She was a valuable asset to all the firms she worked for and retired at age 62.  Avis enjoyed caring for her beautiful plants, flowers, reading, particularly biographies, and cooking for her family.  Avis was a loving, caring, and compassionate mother, wife, grandmother, and friend. She was often described by many as soft-spoken, sweet, and kindhearted.  Her bright eyes, sweet smile, and laughter will be greatly missed.

Avis was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. John F. and Doris Lippe, as well as her siblings, Velma, Janice, Rev. John, Charlie, Ina Mae (Ray) Hall, Doris (Glen) McCray, Jean (Eugene) Huntley, Phillis (Alfred) Blevins, and Emmett (Marj).

Avis is survived by her husband, Keith Chartier, and daughter, Candace (Marc) Murrell, and their kids, Ashley (Jake) Snodgrass, Brandon and Cody, and son, Kevin (Lori) Chartier and their kids, Justin (Aleise), Jeremy (Katie), Jessica, and Josh. Great grandchildren include, Hadley and Rylee Snodgrass, Lorien and Kinley Chartier, and Brayden, Brynlie, and Brock Chartier.  She is also survived by her brother, Gary (Carol) Lippe, and sister-in-law, Judy (Van) Bailey.

As she wished, Avis’ family will honor her memory with a private, graveside service at a later date.
