McPherson Leaves Bartlesville Winless

Bartlesville, OK. – The Bulldogs were on the road on Saturday for a matchup with the Eagles of Oklahoma Wesleyan. McPherson sought to build upon their last two doubleheaders after picking up a win in each, while Oklahoma Wesleyan looked to reach the 10-win mark at home this season.

Game One: MC 3, OWU 11
Oklahoma Wesleyan wasted no time grabbing the lead as Brooklyn Purtell sent a two-run shot over the outfield wall. Maria Fory followed with an RBI to push the Eagles ahead 3-0 in the opening inning, and they added another in the second on a passed ball to make it 4-0.

The Bulldogs found their way onto the board in the top of the fourth with an RBI groundout from Hailey Shubin that brought in Victoria Thornton. Moments later, Layla Towner came around to score on a double from Andrea Solis, trimming the deficit to 4-2.

A response from the Eagles came in the bottom half of the inning as they tallied four more runs, highlighted by Fory’s homer to restore their lead to six runs.

McPherson went on to score one more run in the fifth as Towner delivered an RBI single to right field to score Sidney Larrew; however, Oklahoma Wesleyan pulled away in the sixth, plating three more runs to secure the 11-3 run-rule victory.

Game Two: MC 0, OWU 8
Game Two of the doubleheader followed a similar script, with Oklahoma Wesleyan in control from the start. A two RBI single from Abby Huie in the first opened the scoring for the Eagles.

Oklahoma Wesleyan added to their lead in the fourth on a stolen base from Fory, marking her fifth run of the day.

The Eagles put the finishing touches on the game in the fifth with a big inning. Raegan Rector started the five-run inning with an RBI double, and Huie struck again with a bases-clearing triple to stretch the lead to 7-0. Maddie Ogle followed with an RBI single to bring Huie home and give Oklahoma Wesleyan the 8-0 run-rule win.
