BETHANY, Okla. — The Hesston College women’s soccer team saw its four-match unbeaten streak come to an end Monday afternoon, falling 5-0 to Southwestern Christian University. The loss moved the Larks to 5-2-3 on the season.
Southwestern Christian controlled much of the possession in the opening half, but Hesston goalkeeper Ashleigh Williams helped keep the Larks within striking distance. Williams made four first-half saves before the Eagles broke through in the 35th minute when Hannah Raska scored off an assist from Shosona Graham. Hesston entered halftime trailing 1-0.
The Eagles extended their advantage early in the second half as Hadley McLanahan scored in the 53rd minute. Hesston responded with a chance four minutes later when Rena Itoga put a shot on goal, but Southwestern Christian goalkeeper Aven DeFalco made the save.
Southwestern Christian added a third goal in the 69th minute before scoring again in the 79th. Hesston had an opportunity to get on the board moments later when Itoga stepped to the penalty spot, but DeFalco stopped the attempt. The Eagles added their final goal in the 81st minute.
Hesston finished with four shots, all on goal, compared to 18 shots and 10 on goal for Southwestern Christian. Itoga recorded two of the Larks’ four shots, while Shaniya Scott and Brooklyn Bailey each added one. Williams played all 90 minutes in goal and finished with five saves.
The Larks will return to action Saturday, Oct. 3 when they travel to Bellevue University for a 1 p.m. match.
