Bulldogs Sweep Games on Day Two of Texas Two Step Tournament

Fort Worth, Texas – The McPherson Bulldogs Volleyball team swept both their matches on day two of the Texas Two Step Tournament hosted by Nelson University and Texas Wesleyan University. After two wins yesterday, the Bulldogs finished the weekend with a 4-0 record.

Game One: McPherson College vs Texas Wesleyan University
Score: MC 3, TWU 0

McPherson started the day with a match against Texas Wesleyan. The first set started with some back-and-forth between the teams, but the Bulldogs pulled away for a 25-13 win. The second set showed McPherson taking control, but five straight points from the Rams put them back in the game. The Bulldogs handled the rally, however, ultimately taking the set 25-21. The third set also started with the teams trading points back-and-forth, but six straight points from McPherson gave them control of the final set to win 25-15.

Enya Fierens led the Bulldogs offensively with eight kills and four aces, followed by Havana Olander with seven kills and Tori Buss with six. Defensively, Kaylee Stegora had 4.0 blocks for McPherson while Lily Gray had 4.0.

Game Two: McPherson College vs. Texas A&M Texarkana

McPherson’s next match against Texas A&M Texarkana was another sweep for the Bulldogs. McPherson took control early, leading 17-2 at one point in the first set. A rally from the Eagles gave them some life, but the Bulldogs took the set 25-16. The second set was all McPherson, with the Bulldogs winning 25-5 and scoring 13 straight points in the set. The Eagles found their footing in set three, giving the Bulldogs more of a challenge, but McPherson would go on to win 25-17.

Offensively, the Bulldogs were led by Havana Olander with 10 kills, followed by Buss and Gray with seven each. The Bulldogs out-hit the Eagles .301 to -.012, including an impressive .516 hitting percentage in the second set.

The Bulldogs will be back in action next weekend when they host the Bulldog Invitational from September 3-5 at Jim’s Appliances of Inman Court. McPherson kicks off the Invite on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. when they play Doane.
