McPherson, Kan. – With the 2026 season just 17 days away, The Tiger Women’s Volleyball team is gearing up for what should be an exciting season.
The Tigers finished 4-20 last season notching two conference wins and by splitting their season opening invitational at Manhattan Christian College. The team entered a tough stretch of contests after the invitational but perhaps the biggest highlight of the season came in an away match against Southwestern Christian University. The Tigers trailed the Eagles 2-1 after three sets and found a way to dig deep on the road and take back to back sets to earn their first conference win of the season. The Tigers also defeated Langston University at home in a five set thriller that required an extended set by a score of 19-17. The Team showed flashes of potential and competitiveness and the team believes it can transition into more wins this season.
“I’m excited to see our program take another step in our path towards the program I envision. We have a firmer foundation in our identity than I have seen in the last several years and a talented incoming class that should help lead the way. I look forward to all we will accomplish this year” said Coach Rick Hughes who enters his 6th season as head coach of the Tigers.
Part of that incoming class Coach Hughes is excited about are Freshman Emma Trollinger, Lexi Witt, Mady Randall, and Sophomore Sarah Williams. A group that looks to make an impact right away in depth and also leadership.
Two key returners for the Tigers are 5th year Nattelynn Burns and Junior Sydnie Jones who led the team in kills last season with 232. Their experience and leadership alongside a talented, poised group of newcomers bring belief and momentum towards improving on the 2025 season drastically.
The Tigers will get to open up the season at home on August 28th against Paul Quinn College in the Tiger invitational.
