McPHERSON, Kan. — Two change orders on the Euclid Street Extension of the Elm Street Drainage project were approved by the McPherson City Commission Tuesday. One of the change orders involves relocation of a sanitary sewer line that was not shown on the original plans, and one for a new inlet placed in the alley, also not shown on the plans, the changes having a combined cost of just under $25,000.

Related to that project, the commission approved a payment to BPU for repairs related to a street light raceway on Main Street that was hit during construction, that nearly $5,000 cost to be split between Vogts Parga and a subcontractor.

All sidewalk and stamped concrete on the south side of Euclid east of Main has been completed and concrete work has started in the Main and Euclid intersection, and Public Works Director Jeff Woodward said they are still on track to have the intersection done by Thanksgiving.

The Commission approved a 2025 memorandum of understanding between the McPherson Fire Department and the Office of the State Fire Marshal related to plan reviews and inspections. The Fire Department has several personnel who hold inspection certifications to conduct inspections required by the Fire Marshal’s office, and while this year the OFSM has done the bulk of these inspections, this will be mostly done locally during 2025.

The Commission approved several purchases for the new Fire Station 2, including an air vac diesel exhaust removal system, station alerting system, bunker gear drying rack system and a jet hose washer with a combined cost of just over $58,000. It also approved another payment to Hutton Corporation on the construction contract.

Two items related to a new golf cart garage at Turkey Creek Golf Course were approved during the McPherson City Commission meeting Tuesday, One of those is approval for a down payment to Sturdi-Bilt of Hutchinson for the nearly $100,000 building, and the other is a payment to BPU to install a new fire hydrant on the north side of the current parking lot, which will cost just over $11.500.

The Commission approved a Planning Commission recommendation and re-zoned a property at 200 South Gildersleeve from two-family residential to service business. It also set the Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals meeting schedule for 2025, which is done now so applicants can meet the required cut-off dates for the January 2025 meetings.

In personnel actions the commission approved the hiring of a street department operator in training and accepted the resignation of a firefighter who has accepted a position with another department. The Commission also approved a correction to Municipal Court fees in the city’s Fee Resolution.

The Commission also approved agreements with Swindoll, Janzen, Hawk and Loyd for preparation and reporting of 1099 forms that are sent to vendors and others who the city has made payments above a certain level during the year, and with Caselle to prepare W-2 forms and ACA documents for employees at the end of the year.
