No. 3 Barton Women Capture Program’s 34th Region 6 Outdoor title; Cougars add KJCCC Crown Behind Six Event Victories

The No. 3 ranked Barton Community College women’s track and field team delivered a complete championship performance over three days, capturing the program’s 34th Region 6 Outdoor title Saturday at the KJCCC/Region 6 Championships held at the Phillips Track and Field Complex in Arkansas City.

Pairing consistency and depth with high-end event success, the Cougars totaled 149 points to outdistance a tightly packed field, edging Hutchinson Community College’s 140-point runner-up finish while Cloud County followed in third at 119 and Coffeyville placed fourth with 115 points.

Adding to the weekend haul, Barton secured its 33rd KJCCC title with 191 points, finishing ahead of Hutchinson (173) and Cloud County (170.5) to complete the conference and regional championship sweep for the second time in the last three seasons.

Barton will now turn its attention to the national stage, traveling to Hobbs, New Mexico, May 14–16 for the NJCAA Division I Outdoor Championships held at Ross Black Field of Champions.

Barton womenOn the region leaderboard, Barton produced six event titles and three runner-up finishes, along with a pair of program top-10 impacts while recording a combined fourteen personal and season-best performances across the three-day meet.

Barton’s title push was highlighted by four Cougars successfully defending their regional titles, beginning with Alexia Walker (heptathlon), followed by Celine Riddle (triple jump), Asharria Ulett (100m hurdles), and Natasha Fox (400m hurdles). Barton women

The multi-event competition provided Barton 14 points to begin the meet, led by Walker defending her heptathlon title with a personal best 4,834 points, improving her standing to 10th on the program’s all-time list. Walker’s performance was built on consistent finishes across all seven events, including winning the high jump and runner-up efforts in the 100m hurdles, 200m, and the concluding 800m. Destany Johnson added depth with a fifth-place finish, competing in her first collegiate heptathlon and turning in a national qualifying score of 3,911 points while recording first-time marks across the majority of the seven events.

Leading the charge on the track, Barton’s Ulett and Fox defended their hurdle titles. Ulett continued the Cougars’ 1-2 dominance in the 100m hurdles, racing to the title in a national qualifying 13.50 to edge Camoy Binger‘s 13.70. Ulett already owns the program’s eighth-fastest time, while Binger’s 13.50 preliminary mark tied for 10th fastest. Fox delivered her championship performance in 1:02.80, coming just 70 minutes after scoring four points with a fifth-place finish in the open 400m (57.24).

In the sprints, Barton’s depth was on full display with Kayda Austin placing third in the 100m (11.70) and Sethunya Majama close behind in fourth with a personal best 11.72. Thomphang Basele added a personal best national qualifying performance in the 200m (23.91) for a fourth-place finish, while Takelia Williams contributed additional points with a seventh-place finish (24.58).

The Cougars’ 4x400m relay capped the meet with a strong runner-up finish, posting a season-best 3:46.50 behind the quartet of Majama, Basele, Fox, and Maya Maldonado.

In the field events, Riddle delivered a standout double, capturing titles in both the long jump and triple jump. Riddle soared to a personal best 6.09m (19-11.75) in the long jump before defending her triple jump crown at 12.21m (40-0.75), reinforcing her place among the nation’s top jumpers this season.

Jahmeka Brown added another victory in the high jump, clearing a personal best 1.69m (5-6.50) to top the field.

The throws group stacked 34 points, including 19 in the discus on a 2-3-4 finish led by Shamoye Morris‘ runner-up, personal best throw of 48.96m (160-7), moving into ninth all-time in program history. Shamoyea Morris, who ranks sixth on the program’s all-time list, followed closely in third (48.55m), while Zadie Mackey added a fourth-place personal best effort (47.30m). In the shot put, Shamoye led with a fifth-place finish (12.74m) while Mackey placed sixth (12.66m). Mackey also led Barton in the hammer throw with a fourth-place finish (48.19m) as Shamoye added a sixth-place effort (45.77m).
