CONWAY SPRINGS, Kan. – The doubles team of Tristan Thompson and Troy Hemken took 3rd Place at the 3-2-1A Regional Tennis tournament for Larned on Friday, while their teammates Ryan Hill and Brayden Smith finished in 6th Place, qualifying for the state meet this coming weekend.
Thompson and Hemken opened the regional meet with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout over Wyatt Schlumbohm and Marshall McCammon from Fairfield. They went on to a 6-3, 6-3 win over their Larned teammates Hill and Smith in the quarterfinals before falling to top seeded Joseph Beck and Eli Benge of Conway Springs in the semis. Thompson and Hemken went on to win 5-7, 7-5, 6-1 over Tya Latta and Luke Misak of Chaparral to finish in third place. Hill and Smith won 6-0, 6-1 over Michael Harbert and Aljohn Young of Kingman in the opening round before their straight set loss to Thompson and Hemken. In the consolation bracket, they beat Kuter Harris and Kayleb Swader of Meade 6-2, 6-3 before falling to Kaleb Zoglman and Hudson Stevens of Conway Springs to finish in sixth place.
The pair of Larned Indian doubles teams will compete next at the 3-2-1A State Tournament this coming Friday and Saturday, May 15 and 16 at the Harmon Park Tennis Complex in Prairie Village.
