The Barton Community College women’s soccer team overcame an early deficit Saturday morning, battling Garden City Community College to a 1-all draw in KJCCC action at Garden City.
The result keeps the Cougars unbeaten through five matches at 2-0-3 overall and 0-0-2 in conference play while Garden City moves to 6-1-1 overall and 0-1-1 in league play.
Barton returns home Wednesday for a 3:00 p.m. conference matchup against Coffeyville Community College.
Garden City capitalized on a Barton defensive miscue deep in the Cougars’ defensive end to grab the early advantage as Pascalle Rodriguez found the net 14:41 into the contest.
The Cougars responded by generating three of their four first-half shots on frame but were unable to crack the Broncbuster defense, sending Barton into intermission trailing 1-0.
Barton turned up the pressure after halftime, outshooting Garden City 9-3 over the final 45 minutes. The persistence finally paid off with just under 20 minutes remaining as Ella Swift struck from the wing for her fourth goal of the season, finishing an Ayaka Nagano assist at the 70:52 mark to draw the Cougars even.
The Cougars continued pushing for the go-ahead goal, putting four more attempts toward net over the final 12 minutes, including three on frame, but Garden City goalkeeper Isabelle Barsk kept the contest level.

Barton finished with a 13-10 advantage in shots and 10-6 edge in shots on goal, including a 9-3 second-half shot advantage. Swift paced the attack with four shots and three on frame, while Mikka Kolle put all three of her attempts on target. Maki Kimura added two shots on frame, with Ana Luiza Gori and Noline Baker each placing one on goal. Lucie Gillig recorded five saves, all coming in the opening half, while the Cougars held Garden City without a shot on goal after halftime. Barton also held a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.
