The Neosho County Community College wrestling team opened its 2026-27 season at home on Friday, falling 45-11 to Labette Community College.
The Panthers were led by Hunter Gamble (Orofino, Idaho) and Weston McLaughlin (Riverton, Wyoming), who each picked up victories in the season opener.
Competing at 141 pounds, Gamble earned a victory by injury default over Labette’s David Richey. McLaughlin added a strong performance for the Panthers, securing a 17-2 technical fall over Dominic Ricciardi.
Despite the two victories, the Panthers struggled to find consistency throughout the lineup.
“There are others in the lineup who we expect more from, but they did not show up tonight,” said head coach Hansen. “All we can do is learn from the experience, get back on the mats, improve and move forward.”
Neosho will look to build on its opening performance as the team continues its early-season competition.
Up Next: The Panthers will travel to Baker University on Sunday, November 8, to compete in the Dan Harris Open.
